Joan has been home nearly three weeks now. She is quite perky at times then has periods of despair. I try to keep her spirits up. Quite a task at times. I find the hardest part finding things she wants to eat. I'm not very adventurist in the kitchen so there are a lot of frozen meals or takeaways. I am good at toast and jam in the mornings.
It is hard to make Pluto understand why there is another change to his routine. I take him for walks but I am always conscious that I need to carry my phone and not stray too far from my car.
I was talking to my dental receptionist the other day. I have known her a long time. Her daughter is a volunteer in St John Ambulance. She was telling me about her husband. Went out shopping one Saturday and he collapsed and died. No warning at all. That must have been terrible. I felt really sorry for her but of course I couldn't put it into words.
Pluto meet a heard of cows a few days ago. They are in the field down silverfish where we do most of our walking as it is the closest to home. They were grazing towards us. a good three hundred yards away. Pluto was running about a lot but ignoring them mostly. I noticed that a number had stopped grazing and were slowly approaching.
I was throwing biscuits down the side of the bank for Pluto to catch hoping he would be unable to stop and end up in the river and learn to swim. Suddenly the cows were only twenty five yards away. I called for Pluto to follow and made my way towards the gate. Pluto, of course, decided not to obey. I called again. No, he thought this was a good game. lots of animals to play with. he approached them. the first ones turned and trotted away. but they soon returned. I was calling to him in a calm voice. He looked at me then back to the cattle. They were beginning to surround hm. I called again and he ran towards me. The cattle started to run after him. He had to dodge one then made it through the small gate I was holding open. The leading cows were about three yards away as I closed it.
A number of people get killed each year walking in fields with cattle in it in this country. Most when the cows have young with them. then and at other times a contributory factor is that the human has the dog on the lead. The cattle are after the dog but will attack the human if they are associated with the dog. The best thing is to release the dog. Most are too nimble and fast to be caught. get yourself out of the field then call your dog to come. It worked for us.

Another setback
Joan was having difficulty breathing last night so I called for an Ambulance. She had tests and scans and it transpired that there were clots on her lungs. Because of the recent bleed in her brain they could not give her the super clot busting drugs for fear of her stroking again. They chose a safer option of drugs which would control the size of the clots already there and prevent new clots forming.
Not sure where we will be in a months time.
