Feeling pensive today.

I found myself deep in thought a couple of times today about my friend in France. I do sometimes feel I should never write to her again. But then she is a link to my past. Some of my happiest times were spent with her. But then so were some of my darkest.

Me looking pensive.

We had two short walks today. First down the Huntspill. Pluto found some new friends to play with and I met some nice people to talk to.

There was a lot of traffic on the road back so we turned off for Bradney. A woman arrived just as we did with three small dogs. No leads in sight. I had a vision of what would happen if I let Pluto off his so I took him across the road and we walked to where a lot of the river-side undergrowth had been cut back. The drain has always been second to the Huntspill as a major fishing course. mainly because of poor access to the rivers edge. they finally appear to be addressing it. not that it makes me happy. Better facilities means more Anglers which means more conflict with dog walkers.

There has been talk of fishing being next on the labour parties list of things to control by banning. The Anglers argument that fish do not feel pain does not really hold water. They must feel it and if they had vocal cords I'm sure they would let us know. The fact that something isn't vocal in its complaints doesn't make it right.

But then I am a dog walker and wouldn't complain if greater restrictions, like keeping it to the hours of darkness, were introduced.

Pluto back in my car.

Busy morning

sometimes a song is played on the radio which exactly matches my mood. I have been known to well up inside. So much so that some of it leaks out through my eyes. That happened this morning.

We had a couple of walks. went re-cycling then down to the Huntspill at Gold corner.

There are a number of small thickets on our walk. I look at them sometimes and ponder. For some of the creatures in it it must be their whole universe. Born, live, breed and die in the space of ten of my paces. For the most part within one of my years.

There were a number of fishermen there so I keep our walk short, keeping Plutos attention by talking about the Phillipines disaster. He did try to build some storm defences but I told him he didn't have to bother. I told him how a lot of people were donating money to relieve the suffering the storm had done. I wondered how many would open their homes to a refugee from there. If only for the period it takes to re-build homes and lives. I didn't think many would. When I told Pluto and asked how he would feel if we had another dog in our home he didn't look happy. Probably feared for his biscuit supply. Which is what we humans would fear.

Went to Bradney to see if the boys were there. There were a lot of fishermen about so I kept him on his lead. Had a chat to a man on a horse about horse-meat. I told him I had lived in the far east in the early 1970's. All meat is a source of protein there so I have probably eaten cat, dog, mice, rat and some things that I wouldn't want to know about when stumbling home late at night and buying a meal from a roadside cafe.

Took a couple of pics of me.

Silly grin time.

I went to the third bridge on The Drain this morning. The far end of our usual walk. Saw an Angler friend so stopped to talk. Helped him land a Pike. The boys arrived with Annette but they were on the far side of the water. Pluto and Bj raced one another up and down the bank. I thought for a moment that BJ was going to try and swim it. But he didn't and Pluto soon settled down to exploring his side of the water and annoying some young bullocks.

I had a view from France on here. Hence the silly grin. I wonder what effect my letters had over there?

The Pike wasn't really very big but I helped.

wot! no sheep?

Went down to Silver Fish on the Kings Sedgemoor drain. The sheep have gone. Probably be eating one at the weekend.

Nobody else was around so Pluto gave full reign to his pent up energy. He kept jumping up with his muddy feet on my chest. We had to have words.

It was bright but cold. Sign of what is to come. Heavy snow forecast for the north of the country next week. There wasn't any in Somerset last winter so if it comes it will be Pluto's first.

I'm looking forward to his reaction. I think he will have fun.
